Mayor, MC Commissioner Review Drainage in Yamunanagar

Amid continuous rain, Mayor Suman Bahamani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad, accompanied by a team of Municipal Corporation Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) officials, on Thursday visited various areas in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri to assess waterlogging and drainage issues.

Officials Inspect Key Drains

The team, including Executive Engineer Harish Kumar, Assistant Engineer Mrinal Jaiswal, Chief Sanitation Inspector Harjeet Singh, SDO Rohit Sarogi, and Junior Engineer Gautam Sharma, inspected the main drain in Sector 17. They closely examined its functioning and listened to concerns raised by local councillors Vibhor Pahuja and Ankit Goyal.

Mayor Bahamani ordered the immediate installation of screening nets near Swami Vivekananda Public School to prevent garbage from clogging the drain. She also directed the deployment of an employee to remove waste regularly, ensuring that polythene and other solid waste do not further obstruct the drain.

Action on Underground Drain and Sensitive Areas

The team next visited the underground drain between the Gymkhana Club and Panchayat Bhawan. The Mayor instructed officials of the Public Health Department to clean it as soon as possible. The Mayor and MC Commissioner also inspected several other sensitive and major drains in the twin cities, including those in Professor Colony and Model Town, where waterlogging is a recurring problem during the rainy season.

Appeal to Public and Operational Directives

Mayor Bahamani appealed to the public not to throw solid waste into drains, as it leads to blockages and causes waterlogging. MC Commissioner Parsad instructed officials to ensure all drainage systems are functional during the rainy season and to immediately deploy machinery and manpower wherever waterlogging occurs. He added that pumping sets should be kept ready for low-lying areas to drain water in a timely manner.

Shocking Waste Recovery from Drains

According to sources, cleaning operations in the city have recovered dead calves, dogs, sacks full of clothes, plastic, polythene, and large amounts of other solid waste from drains, highlighting the severity of the waste management challenge.
