Minister names tiger and lion cubs at Delhi Zoo

Minister's Special Visit to Delhi Zoo

The National Zoological Park in Delhi witnessed a significant event on Thursday as Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Kirtivardhan Singh, paid a visit. The highlight of his tour was the ceremonial naming of four adorable new residents of the zoo.

Naming the White Tiger Cubs

During his visit, the minister named two female white tiger cubs that were born in March 2024. He bestowed upon them the powerful and traditional names Durga and Devi. This act not only provides identity to the young cubs but also highlights the cultural significance of these majestic animals.

Asiatic Lion Cubs Get Their Names

Furthermore, the minister reviewed the management and care of two Asiatic lion cubs, a significant addition to the zoo's population. These cubs, one male and one female, were born in April of this year. The MoS named the male cub Kartik and the female cub Karni, respectively.

This visit underscores the government's ongoing commitment to wildlife conservation and the important role that zoological parks play in protecting endangered species. The successful breeding of both white tigers and Asiatic lions at the National Zoological Park is a positive step for India's biodiversity efforts.
