The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Mohali has ruled in favor of Dr. Rajdeep Singh Soni, a resident of Sector 69, in a consumer complaint filed against Tecsa Solar Systems, a solar installation company based in Sector 125, Noida. The case, registered as Consumer Complaint No. 170 of 2022, alleged deficiency in service and failure to honor warranty obligations.
Dr. Soni had installed a 6 KW rooftop solar power plant at his residence in Mohali, investing approximately Rs. 2.92 lakh. However, shortly after installation, the solar system developed repeated defects, including inverter failures, non-functioning of the plant, faulty servicing, and inadequate after-sales support. Despite multiple requests and legal notices, the issues remained unresolved.
The Commission observed that the defects arose within a short period of installation and that the evidence presented by Dr. Soni remained unchallenged. It found that the company had assumed responsibility for warranty support and free service during the warranty period but failed to fulfill its obligations satisfactorily.
In its judgment delivered on June 4, the Commission directed Tecsa Solar Systems to make the entire solar power plant fully functional free of cost within one month. In case of failure, the company must refund the entire amount of approximately Rs 2.92 lakh paid by Dr. Soni, along with applicable interest. Additionally, the Commission awarded Rs 30,000 as compensation for harassment, mental agony, and litigation expenses.
Advocate Pulkit Sachdeva, representing Dr. Soni, confirmed the details of the order. This decision underscores the importance of consumer rights and accountability in the solar energy sector.
