MP Tewari Reviews MPLAD Projects in Chandigarh
Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari chaired a review meeting of the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADs) on Friday at the Municipal Corporation Office. The meeting focused on expediting projects that address micro-level development needs of the community.
Senior officials including Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Amit Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Amandeep Singh Bhatti, Chief Engineer Sanjay Arora, Chander Mukhi Sharma, Pawan Dewan, and Waseem Mir attended the review.
Fast-Tracking Projects for Public Benefit
Tewari emphasized that MPLAD projects must be fast-tracked and expedited as they cater to the micro-level development needs of the community. He directed officials to bring to his notice any projects that bring relief, comfort, convenience, and serve a tangible public purpose, so they can be added to the implementation slate.
The MP noted the large demand for CCTV cameras across the city and requested the Deputy Commissioner to understand why, despite robust police arrangements, a palpable feeling of insecurity persists, driving grassroots demand for surveillance.
Audit of CCTV Cameras Ordered
Tewari directed an audit of CCTV cameras installed in various parts of Chandigarh from December 2024 onwards, when the MPLAD scheme became operational. The audit aims to assess functionality and effectiveness of the surveillance system.
The meeting underscores the government's initiative to enhance urban development and public safety through timely implementation of local area development schemes.
