The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has commenced a door-to-door survey to physically verify self-assessed property tax and trade licence details of residential and commercial buildings in New Town. The initiative aims to cross-check NKDA records for tax payments and issuance or renewal of trade licences.
Survey Notice Issued
On Thursday, NKDA issued a notice requesting land and building owners to provide information and permit physical verification by representatives of a chartered accountancy firm engaged for the survey. An NKDA official stated, “The aim is to update NKDA data for proper assessment and valuation of property tax. Some residents were earlier found to have paid less tax, and the status of structures constructed on land has not been updated.”
Addressing Violations
The survey will also assess approximately 1,000 residential buildings suspected of violating land-use norms. This move is intended to curb the unauthorized conversion of residential properties into commercial spaces. The official added, “We will know the exact figure of violations by next month.”
Residents are urged to cooperate with the survey teams to ensure accurate data collection. The NKDA expects the survey to be completed within a few weeks, after which updated records will be used for fair tax assessment and enforcement of land-use regulations.
