Ranchi Takes on Traffic Chaos: Police and Business Leaders Chart Solutions

In a significant move to address Ranchi's worsening traffic situation, the city's traffic wing convened a crucial meeting with the Federation of Jharkhand Chambers of Commerce and Industries on Tuesday. The gathering focused on multiple pressing issues including illegal parking, school bus movements, and road encroachments that have been plaguing the city's commuters.

22-Point Blueprint for Smoother Roads

The FJCCI presented a comprehensive memorandum containing 22 specific points addressing Ranchi's traffic problems. Among the key concerns highlighted was the proliferation of illegal auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw stands across multiple areas, which officials identified as a primary cause of traffic snarls and congestion throughout the city.

The business body strongly recommended that authorities install proper traffic instruction boards at strategic locations to guide drivers and pedestrians more effectively. This measure aims to bring much-needed order to the current chaotic traffic flow patterns observed across Ranchi.

Voices from the Meeting: Specific Demands and Solutions

Mukesh Pandey, who chairs the FJCCI's traffic sub-committee, emphasized the need for systematic planning of school transportation. "Alternative routes must be planned for school vehicles to avoid peak hour congestion around educational institutions," Pandey stated during the discussions.

Echoing similar concerns, FJCCI general secretary Rohit Agrwal called for stricter enforcement of existing traffic regulations. "The rule prohibiting stopping of auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws within 500 meters of crossings must be properly implemented to ease intersection blockages," Agrwal emphasized.

Traffic Police Response and Action Plan

SP (Traffic) Rakesh Singh assured attendees that the traffic wing is actively working on multiple fronts to improve the situation. "We are currently reviewing traffic signals, planning new signal installations, implementing left-free turns at crossings, and considering narrowing road dividers to create more space for vehicles," Singh explained.

The traffic police chief also made a direct appeal to the business community, asking FJCCI members to ensure they don't encroach upon roads in front of their establishments. This two-pronged approach involving both enforcement and business cooperation signals a comprehensive strategy to tackle Ranchi's traffic challenges.

The meeting represents a collaborative effort between law enforcement and the business community to find sustainable solutions to urban mobility issues that affect daily commuters, businesses, and the overall economic vitality of Jharkhand's capital city.
