Telangana Education Dept Seeks Rs 21 Cr for School Building

The Telangana School Education Department informed the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday that it has requested the state government to sanction Rs 21 crore under the CURE (Core Urban Region Economy) initiative for constructing a permanent building for the Government Girls Primary School at Sitaphalmandi-II, commonly known as Vijaya Dairy School. The school has been operating for nearly 60 years on the premises of the Telangana State Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Ltd (Vijaya Dairy) at Lalapet.

Court Response to Writ Petition

The department's counsel submitted this response before a bench of Justice Vakiti Ramakrishna Reddy, addressing a writ petition filed by parents of students studying at the school. The parents complained about unsafe conditions in the existing dilapidated structure, which is over 60 years old. Pending construction of the new building, authorities have permitted the school to function temporarily from the Government Primary School at Aaryavatika, Lalapet, located about 1.5 kilometers away. This arrangement aims to ensure uninterrupted education for students for the upcoming academic year 2026-27.

Petitioners' Demands

The petitioners, represented by their counsel Chikkudu Prabhakar, sought directions from the court to allot five acres of land belonging to Vijaya Dairy for constructing a new school building and to ensure the continuation of education for local children.

Department's Submission

In its submission, the department informed the court that the existing school building became unsafe due to its age and poor condition. A report submitted by the Deputy Inspector of Schools, Marredpally, following an inspection in March, found the roof and other portions of the building to be in a highly dilapidated condition, making it unsafe for conducting classes. Subsequently, the District Educational Officer sought identification of suitable land for constructing a new school building. The officer also requested the School Education Department to take up the project under the government's CURE initiative after land is allotted by Vijaya Dairy.

Next Hearing

Recording the submissions, the court posted the matter to June 8 for further hearing.
