A tragic accident occurred in Ludhiana's Dholewal area on Tuesday morning when a sand-laden tractor trailer overturned and crushed a cyclist to death. The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Rakesh Kumar, a resident of nearby Haibowal. According to eyewitnesses, the tractor trailer was speeding and lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle, causing it to topple onto the cyclist.
Incident Details
The incident took place around 8:30 AM near the Dholewal bridge. Rakesh Kumar was on his way to work when the trailer fell on him. Local residents rushed to the spot and alerted the police. The driver of the tractor trailer, identified as Gurpreet Singh, fled the scene after the accident. Police have launched a search to apprehend him.
Police Investigation
Station House Officer (SHO) of the Dholewal police station, Inspector Balwinder Singh, said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act. The body has been sent for postmortem examination. The police are also examining CCTV footage from the area to trace the driver.
This is not the first such accident in the area. Locals have been demanding speed breakers and better traffic management on the stretch, which is known for heavy movement of sand and gravel trucks. The authorities have assured action, but residents remain concerned about safety.
