Keonjhar: In a tragic incident, two youths lost their lives and two others sustained severe injuries after a car carrying four individuals plunged off a bridge near Rasol village on the Brahmanipal-Harichandanpur-Keonjhar road in Keonjhar district on Thursday.
Victims and Injured
The deceased have been identified as Debabrat Das and Shivaswarup Rout, both aged 30. The injured, Samaresh Swain (28) and Iswar Prasad Beura (27), were initially admitted to Bhagamunda hospital and later transferred to the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital for further treatment. All four were residents of Amalapada village under Town police station in Dhenkanal district.
Accident Details
According to sources, the accident occurred around 1 pm near Rasol Chowk under Daitari police station limits. The four friends were traveling from Dhenkanal to Ghatagain to visit the Maa Tarini temple. Suddenly, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the bridge and fall into the water below, leading to drowning.
Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted the police. Upon receiving information, police and fire services personnel arrived and, with the help of locals, rescued the occupants. The victims were taken to Bhagamunda, where two were declared dead. The injured were later shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
Post-Mortem and Investigation
The bodies were subsequently sent to Anandapur Sub-Division Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. “The car was seized and kept at the police station,” said SDPO Ghatagaon Bijay Krushna Mohapatra.
Authorities are probing the circumstances leading to the loss of control and the vehicle's fall from the bridge. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
