Garhwa: In a tragic incident, two girls drowned in a pond in Garhwa village on Tuesday, with their bodies being fished out from the pond on Wednesday morning. The deceased were identified as Reshma Kumari (10) and Priyanshu Kumari (8), both residents of Patriha Kalan village under Banshidhar Nagar police station limits of Garhwa district, police said.
Incident Details
Both the girls had gone to Bahwa hill to collect firewood on Tuesday but did not return home until late at night. Concerned locals initiated a search and later fished out the bodies from the pond. They immediately informed the police, who rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Garhwa Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Upendra Kumar, the officer in-charge of Banshidhar Nagar police station, stated, “Prima facie, it appears that the girls died after drowning in the pond. An investigation has been launched into the matter.”
Second Incident: Decomposed Body Found
In another incident, the decomposed body of a man belonging to a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) was recovered from Kumba Kalan forest under Dhurki police station limits of Garhwa district in the morning. The deceased was identified as Sakal Korwa (65), a resident of Dhobni village.
Villagers alleged that Korwa had been missing since Saturday. The officer in-charge of Dhurki police station, Janardan Raut, said, “An investigation is underway to ascertain the reason behind Korwa’s death.”
