Residents of Ugvem village in Mapusa are grappling with an erratic water supply following multiple ruptures in a key pipeline, resulting in the loss of thousands of litres of water. The most recent burst occurred on Tuesday at approximately 6:30 am, even though the pipeline had been repaired shortly before. Just a few days earlier, a section of the pipeline had fractured near the Mauli temple.
Frequent disruptions leave villagers without water
A local resident reported that the community has been without water for four to five days due to the frequent disruptions caused by these repeated breakages. The recurring failures have severely impacted daily life, forcing residents to rely on alternative sources or go without.
Monsoon fears and call for urgent action
With the monsoon season approaching, villagers are concerned that the situation could deteriorate further. They note that carrying out repairs during heavy rainfall would be extremely challenging, potentially prolonging the water shortage. Panch members Samiksha Mahale and Uday Mahale have appealed to MLA Praveen Arlekar and the Tambose-Ugvem-Mopa gram panchayat to intervene immediately and address the pipeline issues before the rains worsen the crisis.
