Uttar Pradesh Government Approves Significant Honorarium Hike for Educators

The Basic Education Department of Uttar Pradesh has officially issued a government order implementing a substantial increase in the monthly honorarium for shiksha mitras and anudeshaks (instructors) across the state. This move follows the state cabinet's approval, which was granted on April 7 under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Details of the Honorarium Increase

The government order authorizes a hike of Rs 8,000 in the honorarium for both shiksha mitras and anudeshaks. This decision builds upon previous announcements, including one made by the Chief Minister in February 2026, where an 80% increase in payouts to shiksha mitras was promised.

For shiksha mitras, the honorarium has seen a significant rise over the years. It was increased from Rs 3,500 to Rs 10,000 per month in 2017, and with this latest adjustment, it now stands at Rs 18,000 per month. Similarly, the honorarium for anudeshaks has been raised to Rs 17,000 per month, up from the previous amount of Rs 9,000.

Implementation and Impact

The revised honorarium rates are set to be applicable starting from April of this year. This increase is expected to benefit a large number of educators working in state-run schools throughout Uttar Pradesh.

According to the government order issued by Additional Chief Secretary of Basic and Secondary Education, Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, there are approximately 1.42 lakh shiksha mitras and 24,717 part-time instructors currently employed in government schools across the state. This hike aims to provide better financial support to these dedicated professionals who play a crucial role in the state's education system.

The decision underscores the government's commitment to enhancing the welfare of educators and improving the quality of education in Uttar Pradesh. By increasing the honorarium, the state aims to motivate and retain skilled instructors, ultimately benefiting students and the broader educational landscape.
