In Prayagraj, activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's (VHP) Gau Raksha wing (Kashi prant) submitted a memorandum addressed to the President through district authorities on Wednesday. The memorandum demands protection of cows and strict action against those involved in cattle smuggling and slaughter.
Demands for Cow Protection
Lal Mani Tiwari, regional secretary of the VHP's Gau Raksha wing, stated that cows are a source of 'satvic' energy, economic prosperity, and well-being. He expressed the organization's concern over the rising incidents of cattle trafficking and cow slaughter across the country.
Nationwide Ban Sought
The outfit demanded a complete nationwide ban on cow slaughter. It also sought action to curb alleged corruption in cow shelters. Additionally, the activists urged authorities to ensure adequate shade, fodder, clean drinking water, and green fodder at shelters. They called for providing nutritious feed to cattle as per prescribed standards.
The memorandum highlights the cultural and economic significance of cows in Indian society. The VHP Gau Raksha wing emphasized that protecting cows is essential for maintaining spiritual and material prosperity. They urged the government to implement strict laws and enforcement mechanisms to prevent cow slaughter and illegal trade.
Activists also pointed out the need for transparency and accountability in cow shelter management. They alleged that corruption in some shelters leads to mistreatment of animals. The memorandum requests regular inspections and audits to ensure proper care for rescued cattle.
The submission of the memorandum marks a continued effort by the VHP to push for cow protection legislation. The organization plans to escalate the matter if no action is taken by authorities.
