Visakhapatnam: Issuing a strict warning to errant motorists, Vizag city police destroyed as many as 142 modified loud silencers (exhaust pipes of two-wheelers) using a bulldozer during a programme in Vizag city on Tuesday morning. The modified silencers were seized from two-wheelers in a recent drive by the traffic police at various locations.
Additional Seizures and Destruction
Besides the modified silencers, the police also destroyed 270 mobile-holders fitted on bikes and seized 89 high beam lights. The police also seized 40 bikes for various traffic violations.
Police Commissioner's Statement
Vizag city police chief Dr. Shankabratha Bagchi stated that they have received complaints from various sections of people, including senior citizens and those suffering from heart-related ailments, over excessive noise and air pollution caused by motorcycles fitted with unauthorized exhaust systems. Special teams have been formed to identify the violators, and action will be initiated against them, he added.
Targeting Youngsters and Sellers
The police observed that some youngsters have been removing company-fitted silencers from bikes such as Royal Enfield, Duke, and other high-end bikes in the city and replacing them with modified silencers that produce loud noise and cause inconvenience to the public. Besides the violators, we will also identify the sellers of those silencers, the police added.
