23-Year-Old Arrested for Two-Wheeler Thefts in Mumbai

MUMBAI: A 23-year-old man was arrested by the Charkop police for stealing two-wheelers in the western suburbs, and five stolen motorcycles worth Rs 2 lakh were recovered from him. With his arrest, the police solved five offences registered at the Charkop police station.

Accused Identified

The accused has been identified as Mohd Raees Shah, 23, a resident of Malwani. Police said he was involved in multiple thefts of two-wheelers in the area.

How the Arrest Happened

On the night of May 3, police officers on patrol spotted two men pushing a two-wheeler at Bhabrekar Nagar in Charkop. When questioned, the duo claimed the vehicle belonged to their friend, the accused. Police asked them to call him, but his responses were evasive. Upon checking, police found that the two-wheeler had been reported stolen from Charkop in June 2024.

The two friends told police they had borrowed the vehicle from the accused to drop an acquaintance home. Using information from them, police tracked the accused to Malwani. When police arrived in his neighborhood, the accused attempted to flee but was chased and apprehended.

Recovery and Legal Action

During the investigation, police recovered five stolen motorcycles worth approximately Rs 2 lakh. The accused has been charged with theft and related offences.
