3-Year Wait for Bungalow Miffs Karnataka LoP R Ashoka

Bengaluru: Karnataka Leader of Opposition (LoP) R Ashoka has expressed frustration over a three-year delay in the allotment of an official bungalow. Despite writing six letters over this period, he has yet to receive a residence from his preferred list.

Preferred Properties

Ashoka has sought allotment of any one among three preferred residences: No. 1 Kumarakrupa East, Race View Cottages No. 1, and No. 2. These properties are located in prime areas of Bengaluru and are traditionally used for accommodating senior political figures.

Repeated Requests

The LoP has been persistent in his requests, with the first letter dating back to 2023. Subsequent reminders were sent annually, but the state government has not yet responded positively. Sources close to Ashoka indicate that the delay is causing inconvenience and hampering his official duties.

Karnataka’s official bungalow allotment policy prioritizes sitting ministers, former chief ministers, and leaders of opposition. However, administrative bottlenecks and pending clearances are often cited as reasons for delays.

Ashoka’s party has also raised the issue in the state assembly, demanding immediate action. The government has assured that the matter is under consideration, but no timeline has been provided.

The delay has sparked political debate, with opposition parties accusing the ruling government of deliberately stalling the allotment. The government denies any bias, stating that the process follows standard procedures.
