Police in Dhule have taken swift action, arresting six individuals following violent clashes between two political groups in the Deopur area. The incidents, which included a shooting that left one man with a stomach bullet wound, occurred on Friday during the process of withdrawing nominations for the upcoming Dhule Municipal Corporation elections.
Sequence of Violent Events
The day saw two separate but connected clashes. The first altercation erupted at around 12:30 pm near the nomination withdrawal centre. According to a complaint filed by Yash Borse, whose uncle Ramesh Borse is a candidate in the polls, five people attacked them with sharp weapons following an argument. Ramesh Borse sustained injuries to his palm and leg and was subsequently admitted to a private hospital.
Based on Yash Borse's complaint, the Deopur police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and the Indian Arms Act. The charges included voluntarily causing grievous hurt and wrongful restraint. Among the accused named was Umesh Kamble, who later became a victim in the second incident.
Afternoon Shooting Escalates Tension
Tensions boiled over again at 3:30 pm in another part of Deopur. In a counter-complaint, Gaurav Narote alleged that seven individuals, including Yash and Ramesh Borse, attacked his group. He stated that during this assault, one person fired a shot, which struck Umesh Kamble in the stomach.
Following Narote's complaint, police filed a second FIR for more serious offences, including attempted murder, along with sections of the BNS and Arms Act. This case was registered against Yash Borse, Ramesh Borse, and five others.
Police Response and Investigation Status
Dhule SP Srikant Dhivre confirmed that the police responded promptly to the volatile situation. Six people were arrested—three from each side—in connection with the two registered FIRs. Notably, Ramesh Borse, an accused in the second case, was already hospitalised from the injuries he received in the noon attack.
The police action led to the arrest of three individuals linked to the first complaint and three linked to the second. Authorities have emphasised that both cases are under active investigation as they piece together the events of the day that marred the electoral process.
The incidents highlight the heightened tensions often surrounding local body elections and the challenges law enforcement faces in maintaining order during politically charged periods.
