AAP MLA Slams SGPC and Akali Dal Over 'Deeply Disturbing' Revelations

In a significant development from Chandigarh, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Inderbir Singh Nijjar has strongly condemned recent revelations made by former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh, regarding the internal operations of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). On Wednesday, Nijjar described these disclosures as "deeply disturbing" and called for immediate scrutiny into the alleged malpractices.

Seriousness Amplified by Source Credibility

Nijjar emphasized that while the Sikh community (Sangat) had long been discussing the perceived decline of these pivotal institutions, the gravity of the situation has been multiplied many times over by the fact that a former responsible office-bearer of the supreme Sikh institution has now brought these truths into the public domain. He stated that this move from such a credible source adds unprecedented weight to the concerns, making it imperative for authorities to investigate thoroughly.

Allegations of Land Sales and Contract Fraud

The AAP MLA leveled serious accusations against the management practices within SGPC. He alleged that valuable lands belonging to the Guru Ghar (Sikh religious properties) are being sold off at throwaway prices, primarily to provide illegal benefits to favorites and insiders. This, according to Nijjar, represents a blatant misuse of sacred trust and resources.

Furthermore, Nijjar claimed that large-scale fraud is occurring in contracts managed under SGPC oversight. He detailed a pattern where contracts are initially awarded to close associates of those in power, only to be sublet later at significantly higher prices. This practice, he argued, not only drains financial resources but also undermines the integrity of the institutions meant to serve the Sikh community.

Call for Accountability and Reform

Nijjar's statements underscore a growing demand for transparency and accountability within SGPC and SAD. He urged the community and regulatory bodies to take these allegations seriously and initiate corrective measures to restore faith in these institutions. The revelations have sparked renewed debate about governance and ethical standards in Sikh religious and political organizations.
