Andhra Pradesh Government Reassures Public on LPG Supply Amid Fuel Concerns
In response to growing concerns over fuel availability, the state government of Andhra Pradesh has issued a clear clarification that there is no shortage of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas). Officials have emphasized that current stocks significantly exceed daily demand, aiming to alleviate public anxiety and prevent unnecessary panic.
Stocks Far Outpace Consumption, Says Civil Supplies Director
Civil Supplies Director Srivas Nupur Ajay Kumar addressed the media in a press conference, providing detailed figures to support the government's stance. She revealed that nearly 14,000 metric tonnes of LPG are currently available in refineries across the state. In contrast, the daily consumption rate stands at approximately 4,100 metric tonnes, indicating a robust surplus that should comfortably meet needs.
"People need not panic. We have sufficient reserves and are continuously monitoring supply systems to avoid any disruption," Kumar stated firmly. She urged citizens to rely on official information and not fall for rumors circulating on social media platforms, which have contributed to the heightened concerns.
Stable Supply of Essential Commodities Amid Global Uncertainties
Beyond LPG, Kumar assured that the supply of other critical commodities remains stable despite global economic and geopolitical uncertainties. This includes cooking gas, petrol, diesel, and fertilisers, all of which are being closely managed to ensure uninterrupted availability for consumers and industries alike.
The government's proactive measures are designed to maintain a steady flow of these essentials, with regular assessments of stock levels and distribution networks to preempt any potential issues.
Streamlined Distribution and Measures to Prevent Panic Buying
To enhance convenience and efficiency, the state has implemented 100% home delivery of LPG cylinders. Bookings can be made through multiple channels, including WhatsApp, IVRS (interactive voice response system), missed calls, and dedicated mobile applications. This multi-pronged approach aims to simplify access and reduce physical queues.
Additionally, to discourage panic buying and hoarding, rebooking policies have been strictly enforced. In urban areas, rebooking is permitted only after 25 days, while in rural regions, the waiting period extends to 45 days. These rules help regulate demand and ensure equitable distribution across all demographics.
Strict Actions Against Black Marketing and Violations
Officials have highlighted rigorous measures to combat black marketing and illegal activities related to LPG distribution. Nearly 90% of LPG deliveries are now OTP-based, adding a layer of security and transparency to the process. Since March, authorities have registered 1,075 cases and seized 4,377 cylinders for various violations, demonstrating a zero-tolerance stance towards malpractice.
These enforcement actions are part of a broader strategy to safeguard consumer interests and maintain market integrity, ensuring that supplies reach legitimate users without exploitation.
The government continues to monitor the situation closely, with ongoing efforts to communicate updates and reassure the public through official channels.
