Visakhapatnam: Severe heatwave conditions gripped the coastal Andhra Pradesh districts of Narsapur and Bapatla on Wednesday, with mercury levels soaring to 43.4 and 44.8 degrees Celsius, respectively. Parts of Machilipatnam, Gannavaram, and Kavali also recorded heatwave conditions, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Hottest Locations in Andhra Pradesh
According to IMD data, Jangamaheswarapuram in Palnadu district emerged as the hottest location in the state on Wednesday, registering a maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius. It was closely followed by Bapatla (44.8°C), Gannavaram (44.2°C), Amaravati (44°C), Kavali (43.8°C), Narsapur (43.4°C), Ongole and Nellore (43.3°C each), and Machilipatnam and Nandigama (43.1°C). The remaining parts of the state recorded temperatures between 40°C and 42°C.
First Official Heatwave Day of the Month
Andhra Pradesh recorded its first official heatwave day of the month on Wednesday, as dry hot winds and blistering sunshine pushed temperatures beyond 45 degrees Celsius. The sweltering heat, coupled with high humidity, has made life increasingly uncomfortable in the coastal districts for the past three to four days.
Orange Alert Issued
The weather office has issued an orange alert for the state for the next four to five days. Heatwave conditions are likely to occur at isolated places in NTR, Krishna, Palnadu, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Eluru, West Godavari, East Godavari, Konaseema, ASR, Kakinada, and Yanam districts.
Residents are advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and wearing light clothing. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
