Satyajit Das, aged 24, was the president of the BJP Katigorah Mandal Yuva Morcha and lived in Katirail village. He had taken up the leadership position only a month before his death. According to official statements his family provided in the presence of an executive magistrate, Das had borrowed money from several sources and was under intense financial strain in recent weeks.
His brother informed the police that Satyajit had been facing constant harassment from those who had lent him money. The situation reached a critical point on Sunday morning when a local shopkeeper reportedly confronted him, demanding repayment of dues. During this encounter, a distressed Satyajit allegedly stated that he might end his life as he saw no way to clear his debts.
