Delhi Opposition Leader Atishi Denies Allegations of Insulting Sikh Guru
In a significant development at the Delhi Assembly, opposition leader Atishi has firmly denied allegations that she made derogatory remarks against Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur. The controversy erupted during the recently concluded winter session, with BJP MLAs accusing her of using insulting language while referring to the revered spiritual figure.
Atishi Demands Access to Unedited Assembly Recordings
On Monday, Atishi submitted a written reply to the assembly's privileges committee. She categorically rejected the charges leveled against her by BJP legislators. In her response, she specifically requested access to the complete, unedited official video recordings of the house proceedings. She believes these recordings will prove her innocence and clarify her actual statements.
According to officials familiar with the matter, Atishi also asked for copies of the formal complaint filed against her. She sought all related communications from the assembly speaker's office. This move aims to ensure transparency in the investigation process.
BJP Reacts to Atishi's Defense
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor responded to Atishi's denial. He expressed disappointment with her stance. "No one expected her to accept her fault of insulting the Sikh Guru Sahiban," Kapoor stated. The BJP maintains its position that the remarks were inappropriate and disrespectful.
The privileges committee will now review Atishi's reply and the evidence she has requested. The outcome of this review could have significant political implications in Delhi. Both sides appear prepared for a prolonged dispute over the interpretation of the assembly proceedings.
