Ballia police arrested three men on Friday night for the murder of a youth during a wedding function three days ago, triggered by a dispute over the direction of a cooler. A fourth accused had already been apprehended following an encounter around midnight on Wednesday.
Arrests Made Near Mubarakpur Crossing
Jiyanpur police station in-charge Vinay Kumar Singh confirmed that Mahesh Nishad, 24, Pawan Nishad, 18, and Bheem Nishad, 22, were taken into custody near Mubarakpur crossing at approximately 12:40 am.
Details of the Incident
On April 29, Anmir Chandra Sahani, a 29-year-old resident of Gorakhpur, arrived with a wedding procession (baraat) to Indira Nagar, Ajmatgarh, under the Jiyanpur police station limits. During the jaimal (garland exchange) rituals, a clash erupted between the bride's and groom's sides over turning a cooler toward them. In the ensuing violence, Sahani was stabbed to death.
Following the incident, Rajesh Nishad of Gorakhpur filed a First Information Report (FIR) against nine individuals, naming Neeraj Nishad as a key accused.
Previous Encounter and Arrest
In a late-night encounter on April 30, the main accused, Neeraj Nishad, was arrested after an exchange of fire with Jiyanpur police in Azamgarh district. His two accomplices had managed to escape at that time but were later captured.
The police continue to investigate the case and are pursuing any remaining suspects.
