Bengali Migrant Found Dead in Assam Sparks Political Controversy

A 33-year-old man from West Bengal's Cooch Behar district was found dead in Assam under mysterious circumstances. The incident has ignited a political firestorm between the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Victim Identified as Himankar Paul

The deceased has been identified as Himankar Paul. He was a resident of Kursamari village in the Sitalkuchi block of Cooch Behar district. According to his family members, Paul had left home last Thursday in search of employment opportunities in Arunachal Pradesh.

He failed to secure a job there and decided to return home. Paul boarded a bus on Saturday for his return journey to West Bengal.

Body Discovered Near Railway Track

On Sunday, Assam Police contacted Paul's family with tragic news. They informed them that his body had been discovered near a railway track at Guhapur in Assam.

Family members allege that Paul had an altercation with the bus driver during his journey. They believe this confrontation led to his death. Four family members have now traveled to Assam to bring Paul's body back to West Bengal for last rites.

No formal police complaint has been lodged by the family so far regarding the incident.

Political Accusations Fly

The Trinamool Congress has made serious allegations about the case. They claim that Paul was specifically targeted because he was a Bengali-speaking migrant in Assam, which is governed by the BJP.

Meanwhile, the BJP has fired back with accusations of its own. BJP leaders claim that the Trinamool Congress is playing dirty ethnic politics over this tragic incident.

BJP representatives pointed out that Trinamool remained silent when a similar incident occurred in Jharkhand. Jharkhand is governed by the JMM, which is an ally of the Trinamool Congress.

The case has highlighted tensions surrounding migrant workers and ethnic politics in the region. Both political parties are using the incident to attack each other's records on protecting citizens.
