In a significant move towards inclusive and sustainable transportation, Bengaluru's Transport Minister distributed 10 electric auto-rickshaws to women and transgender drivers. The event took place in the city, highlighting the government's commitment to empowering marginalized communities and promoting eco-friendly mobility.
Empowerment Through Green Mobility
The initiative aims to provide livelihood opportunities while reducing carbon emissions. Each beneficiary received a brand-new electric auto, fully registered and insured. Authorities also ensured that all beneficiaries possessed valid driving licenses and underwent the necessary training to safely and professionally operate electric autos.
Training and Support
Before receiving the vehicles, the drivers completed a comprehensive program covering traffic rules, electric vehicle maintenance, and customer service. This training ensures they are well-prepared to navigate Bengaluru's roads and provide reliable service to passengers.
The Transport Minister emphasized that this is just the beginning, with plans to expand the program to include more beneficiaries in the coming months. The government is also working on setting up charging infrastructure to support the growing fleet of electric autos.
This distribution aligns with broader state and national goals to increase electric vehicle adoption and create a more inclusive workforce. Women and transgender individuals often face barriers in traditional employment, and this scheme offers them a dignified means of earning a living.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that owning an electric auto reduces their operating costs compared to fuel-powered vehicles, allowing them to save more and improve their quality of life.
The event was attended by local officials, community leaders, and representatives from electric vehicle manufacturers. It marks a positive step towards a greener and more equitable future for Bengaluru's transport sector.
