Bengaluru Deploys 20,000 Police, AI & Heat Maps for 1 Million NYE Revellers
Bengaluru's Massive NYE Security Plan: 20K Police, AI, Heat Maps

In preparation for an unprecedented influx of over a million celebrants on New Year's Eve, the Karnataka government has unveiled a massive, tech-driven security blueprint for Bengaluru. The state will deploy a staggering 20,000 police personnel across the city's popular hotspots to manage the expected crowds and ensure public safety.

Unprecedented Police Deployment and Tech Arsenal

Following a high-level review meeting chaired by Home Minister G Parameshwara, the detailed security plan was finalized. The force will comprise 14,000 law and order personnel, 2,500 traffic police, 88 platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), and 21 City Armed Reserve units. Mobility will be enhanced with 266 Hoysala patrol cars and 250 Cheetah patrol vehicles. This core team will be supplemented by traffic wardens, civil defence personnel, and home guards.

Parameshwara noted that last year's celebrations saw participation from over eight lakh people. "This year, officials estimate the number could exceed 10 lakh," he stated. Key areas expecting massive footfall include MG Road, Brigade Road, Indiranagar, Koramangala, and Neeladri Road in Electronic City.

AI, Drones, and Real-Time Heat Maps for Crowd Control

Marking a significant technological leap, the Bengaluru police will for the first time employ a heat map system to visually assess and monitor live crowd density across the city. This system will classify areas into red zones (very high density), yellow zones (moderate density), and green zones (low density), enabling dynamic resource allocation.

The tech suite doesn't end there. Authorities will deploy AI-powered facial recognition cameras at venues to scan for individuals with criminal backgrounds. Drone surveillance will provide an aerial overview of crowd movements, while 250 temporary CCTV cameras will be installed at celebration venues. For public convenience and safety, a QR code-based system will offer real-time updates on ambulance availability, traffic conditions, and safety alerts.

On-Ground Measures and Public Infrastructure

Substantial physical infrastructure is being put in place to manage the mega-event. The police will install watch towers and 180 focus lamps at sensitive points to enhance visibility and security. Eight dedicated transport hubs will be established across the city to facilitate the safe return of revellers to their homes after the celebrations.

Additional measures include setting up safety shelters for those in need. The police have also issued strict guidelines to bars, restaurants, and malls operating on New Year's Eve to ensure compliance with safety and noise regulations. This holistic approach, combining sheer manpower with cutting-edge technology and strategic planning, underscores the administration's focus on preventing untoward incidents and ensuring that Bengaluru rings in 2025 on a safe and secure note.
