Patna witnessed a significant law and order announcement on Tuesday as Bihar's newly appointed Home Minister Samrat Choudhary declared comprehensive measures to combat crime across the state. The deputy chief minister outlined plans ranging from deploying anti-Romeo squads outside educational institutions to seizing properties of identified mafia elements.
Enhanced Security for Educational Institutions
Addressing reporters after assuming charge of the crucial home department, Choudhary revealed that anti-Romeo squads would conduct regular patrolling near schools and colleges throughout Bihar. This initiative specifically aims to protect female students from harassment and create safer educational environments.
Special police forces will be strategically deployed outside educational institutions after class hours to prevent incidents of eve-teasing and harassment. The minister emphasized that these security measures would remain active even during vacation periods to ensure continuous protection.
Zero-Tolerance Approach Against Organized Crime
Choudhary affirmed the government's firm stance against criminal elements, declaring a policy of zero tolerance toward all forms of crime. In a major crackdown on organized crime networks, the police department has identified approximately 400 mafia figures operating within the state.
Properties belonging to these identified mafias will be seized following proper court orders, the minister confirmed. He provided an update that judicial permission has already been granted against two individuals, signaling the beginning of this extensive property attachment drive.
Comprehensive Prison Reforms Announced
The home minister also unveiled plans for significant jail reforms aimed at tightening security across all state prisons. All Bihar prisons will be brought under strict vigil to prevent unauthorized activities and improve overall management.
Choudhary addressed specific concerns regarding prison operations, noting that despite government provisions for sufficient food quantities, outside food continues to be supplied illegally to inmates. The minister announced that unless medically prescribed by doctors, no outside food would be permitted within prison premises going forward.
Officials found violating these regulations will face strict disciplinary action, Choudhary warned. Additionally, the home department plans to implement stronger measures to curb the unauthorized entry of mobile phones into jail compounds, addressing security concerns related to incarcerated individuals maintaining external criminal connections.
The minister concluded by emphasizing the government's priority to enforce good governance, accelerate legal actions against criminals through speedy trials, and establish comprehensive crime prevention mechanisms throughout Bihar.
