Bihar Family's Tragic Mistake: Cremates Wrong Body, Finds Missing Man Alive
In a bizarre and heart-wrenching incident from Kishanganj district, Bihar, a family mistakenly performed the last rites for an unidentified youth, believing him to be their missing relative, only to later discover that the man was actually alive and well. The case has left the local community in shock and raised questions about identification procedures.
The Disappearance and Mistaken Identity
Amar Chauhan, a resident of Motibag under the Sadar police station area, went missing on Thursday, causing immediate concern among his family members. The following day, a youth was tragically killed after being struck by a train near the Khagda number three railway crossing. When family members arrived to identify the body, they mistakenly recognized it as belonging to Amar Chauhan.
Following standard police procedure, the body underwent a post-mortem examination at Sadar hospital, after which the grieving family performed the traditional last rites, cremating what they believed to be their loved one.
The Astonishing Discovery
In a dramatic turn of events, the family later received a phone call informing them that Amar Chauhan had been found alive but intoxicated in the Panjipara area of West Bengal. Rushing to the location, family members confirmed his identity and safely brought him back home, creating a mixture of relief and confusion about the identity of the cremated individual.
Police Investigation Underway
Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar confirmed that a fresh unnatural death case has been registered regarding the cremated body. "Efforts are underway to identify the cremated body," Kumar stated. He emphasized that the body had been handed over following standard procedure after family identification, highlighting the tragic nature of the mistaken identity.

In a separate incident, a first-year postgraduate student at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna was found unconscious in his hostel room on Friday after allegedly attempting suicide by consuming drugs. Identified as Vishwas Kumar, a resident of Mukundapur in West Bengal, the student is currently receiving treatment in the ICU, with doctors reporting his condition as stable.
Police recovered a suicide note from his hostel room, leading to the room being sealed and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team being called in for investigation. Authorities have informed the student's family about the situation.
School Driver Arrested for Alleged Rape of Minor
In Siwan district, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped during a Ram Navami fair at a village. Police have arrested the accused, who worked as a driver at the victim's private school.
According to police reports, the accused lured the girl away from the fair by falsely claiming that her brother-in-law was calling her. He allegedly took her to a nearby abandoned school where the crime occurred before fleeing the scene. The traumatized girl was later found crying and narrated the incident to her grandmother, leading the family to approach authorities. The victim has been sent to Sadar hospital for medical examination.
Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha confirmed that "the accused is being interrogated and further investigation is underway."
Unidentified Youth Found Dead in Patna
In another development, the body of an unidentified young man was discovered near a school at Bhadraghat under the Alamganj police station area of Patna on Saturday morning. Local residents spotted the body and alerted authorities.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination after conducting preliminary investigations at the scene. Initial indications suggest the death may be linked to drug abuse, though the exact cause will be determined after the post-mortem report.
