BJP claims Congress leaders in Karnataka are fighting for CM post

Mysuru: BJP state president B Y Vijayendra on Saturday claimed that several senior Congress leaders, including AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, are eyeing the chief minister's post in Karnataka, leading to the ruling party's internal power struggle, which is hurting governance in the state.

Vijayendra's allegations against Congress

Speaking to reporters here, Vijayendra said Kharge had already indicated that there was a proposal to change the CM. He alleged that Congress leaders were "fighting for the chair" everyday, while the supporters of CM Siddaramaiah and deputy CM D K Shivakumar keep travelling to New Delhi to lobby their respective leaders. He further claimed that Shivakumar's supporters are saying he would become CM before May 15.

Referring to recent incidents, including allegations on corruption in police dept of Dharwad, the BJP chief accused the Congress govt of failing on law and order and neglecting development. He also alleged that Mysuru is turning into "another Punjab" because of the drug menace.

Bypoll predictions and Yediyurappa event

Vijayendra further claimed that some Congress leaders had privately admitted to him that the BJP would win both the Davanagere South and Bagalkot byelections. He said the bypoll results would serve as a lesson for the Congress govt.

Vijayendra said Chitradurga had been chosen to host the May 9 event marking 50 years of public life of former CM BS Yediyurappa, crediting local MP Govinda M Karjol for the selection. He said more than 10 lakh people are expected to attend the programme celebrating Yediyurappa's contributions.

Praising the veteran leader, Vijayendra said Yediyurappa did not become CM by luck, but through struggle, spending 45 of his 50 years in public life fighting for the people of Karnataka.
