BJP MLA Sharanu Salagar Faces Cheque Bounce Case Over Rs 99 Lakh Loan
BJP MLA booked for cheque bounce in Rs 99 lakh loan case

A cheque bounce case has been officially registered against Basavakalyan BJP MLA Sharanu Salagar, following allegations that he failed to return a substantial loan amounting to Rs 99 lakh. The case was filed by Sanjukumar Sugure, a resident of Jai Shankar Colony in Basavakalyan city.

Court Order Leads to Police Case

Acting on the order of the ACJM court in Bengaluru, the Basavakalyan city police formally registered the case on Saturday. The complaint stems from a financial agreement made during the 2023 Karnataka assembly elections.

According to the allegations, Sanjukumar Sugure provided the loan to the MLA, who promised to repay the amount within a six-month period. The promised repayment, however, did not materialize within the agreed timeframe.

A History of Trust Between Relatives

The complaint reveals a deeper context to the transaction. Sanjukumar stated that he had given loans to Salagar on multiple occasions in the past, and the MLA had returned them promptly on time. This financial history was built on a foundation of trust, as both the complainant and the MLA are reportedly relatives.

It was based on this familial trust and past reliability that Sanjukumar agreed to lend the significant sum for the election campaign.

Community Panchayat and Bounced Cheque

After the initial repayment deadline passed, the matter was brought before a community panchayat consisting of seniors from their community. During this gathering, Sharanu Salagar issued a cheque to assure the complainant of repayment.

This attempt to resolve the dispute failed when Sanjukumar deposited the cheque at the bank. The bank returned the cheque, informing him that the associated account had been closed, rendering the cheque invalid.

Following this, the police at Basavakalyana police station registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), specifically sections 74, 109, 314(4), 318, 351, and 352. The investigation into the matter is currently ongoing.
