Chennai: Following the BJP's disappointing performance in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where the party secured only one of the 27 seats it contested, the state unit has announced a series of district-level office-bearers' meetings across the state from May 24 to May 29. These meetings are part of an outreach and review exercise aimed at understanding the electoral setback and strengthening the party's organizational structure.
Key Leaders to Participate
Apart from State BJP president Nainar Nagenthran, union minister L Murugan, former state president K Annamalai, and senior leaders Tamilisai Soundararajan, Pon Radhakrishnan, Prof Ram Sreenivasan, and Vanathi Srinivasan will attend as special guests and lead the meetings. Their presence underscores the party's focus on grassroots engagement and strategic planning.
Strategic Discussions in New Delhi
The decision follows Nainar Nagenthran's meeting with BJP national president Nitin Nabin in New Delhi on Friday. During this meeting, discussions centered on the party's organizational plans and political strategy in Tamil Nadu, highlighting the central leadership's involvement in addressing the state unit's challenges.
Consultative Meeting in Coimbatore
Earlier on Thursday, a two-day consultative meeting was held in Coimbatore, chaired by BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh. Party leaders deliberated on the reasons behind the electoral setback and charted the future course of action. The meeting also addressed claims by a section of AIADMK rebel MLAs that they were no longer part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). However, Nainar later clarified to reporters that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami had not made any such statement, emphasizing the alliance's stability.
