BJP-Led NDA Unveils Comprehensive Kerala Election Manifesto with Focus on Welfare and Development

In a significant political move ahead of the Kerala assembly elections, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has presented a detailed election manifesto packed with promises ranging from women empowerment to substantial infrastructure projects. The manifesto was officially released by BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday in Thiruvananthapuram, outlining a vision for Kerala's transformation if the alliance secures power.

Women Empowerment and Social Welfare Initiatives

The manifesto places strong emphasis on women's welfare with several targeted schemes. Women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families will receive an Arogya Suraksha Card, enabling them to purchase groceries and medicines worth Rs 2,500 every month. Additionally, the NDA has promised two free LPG cylinders annually to poor families—one during Onam and another during Christmas—to alleviate cooking fuel expenses.

For broader social security, the alliance has committed to increasing the welfare pension to Rs 3,000 per month for women heads of poor households, widows, and senior citizens aged over 70. Every household in Kerala would also receive 20,000 litres of drinking water monthly free of charge, addressing essential needs.

Healthcare and Education Reforms

Healthcare receives substantial attention in the manifesto, with the promise to expand Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY to cover every Keralite, providing a comprehensive safety net during medical emergencies. The establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kerala is another key commitment aimed at enhancing medical infrastructure.

In education, the BJP-led NDA plans to transform state-sponsored education by offering optional English medium instruction over the next five years, aiming to improve accessibility and quality.

Infrastructure and Transportation Development

Infrastructure development forms a cornerstone of the manifesto, with ambitious transportation projects. The alliance has promised to establish a high-speed railway network connecting Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur, significantly reducing travel time across the state. Additionally, all phases of the Kochi Metro will be completed, and new Metro services will be introduced in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.

Other infrastructure promises include the development of Vizhinjam as a major industrial complex through a ship repair and marine engineering cluster, an elevated double-rail line from Nemom yard to Vizhinjam Port, and a dedicated industrial corridor surrounding the port.

Agricultural and Economic Promises

To support farmers, the NDA has committed to providing a minimum support price for all crops that require it. The manifesto also includes plans to amend relevant land and forestry laws to allow plantation lands to adopt multi-crop agriculture, promoting agricultural diversity and sustainability.

Economically, the alliance has proposed an employment-linked incentive scheme, offering a soft loan of Rs 1 lakh for each job created for residents by enterprises in the state. This aims to boost local employment and stimulate economic growth.

Regional Development and Cultural Protection

The manifesto outlines a tailored vision for developing corporations as economic engines across Kerala. Specific plans include developing Thiruvananthapuram as an IT and innovation capital, Kochi as India's shipbuilding capital, Kozhikode as a healthcare and medical innovation hub, Thrissur as Kerala's cultural tourism capital, Kollam as a blue economy cluster for marine exports, and Kannur as a defence innovation hub.

In terms of cultural and religious protection, the BJP-led NDA has pledged to protect Sabarimala, Guruvayur, and all other places of worship by revamping devaswom boards to increase devotee participation in temple management. A time-bound CBI enquiry into the Sabarimala gold heist is promised to end corruption, along with the launch of a Sabarimala Infrastructure Development Mission for large-scale, devotee-centric infrastructure development.

Inter-State Cooperation and Water Management

Overall, the BJP-led NDA's election manifesto for Kerala presents a comprehensive package of promises aimed at addressing social welfare, infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and cultural preservation, setting the stage for a competitive electoral battle in the state.
