Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Karnataka state president B Y Vijayendra on Thursday took a swipe at the Congress party, alleging that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar's cabinet is essentially a replica of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's previous cabinet. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Vijayendra said, "D K Shivakumar's Cabinet looks like Siddaramaiah's Cabinet. There is no change in the style of functioning or the composition."
Allegations of corruption
Referring to allegations of corruption, Vijayendra said there were allegations of a 40 per cent commission regime under Siddaramaiah's government. "We have to wait and see whether Shivakumar will set all this right," he said. The BJP leader also accused the Congress party of failing to address the issues of farmers and youth in the state.
Congress response
The Congress party has not yet responded to Vijayendra's comments. However, sources within the party said that the cabinet formation was a collective decision and that the party is committed to good governance. "The allegations are baseless and politically motivated," a Congress spokesperson said.
- Vijayendra also criticized the Congress government over its handling of the drought situation in several districts of Karnataka.
- He alleged that the government has failed to provide adequate relief to affected farmers.
The political slugfest in Karnataka continues as both parties gear up for the upcoming local body elections. The BJP is hoping to capitalize on the anti-incumbency sentiment against the Congress government, while the Congress is banking on its welfare schemes to retain voter support.
