Police Detain BRS Leaders During Secunderabad Rally

Several BRS leaders from Secunderabad faced police custody on Saturday morning. The incident occurred when they tried to organize a rally from Secunderabad railway station to the Mahatma Gandhi statue on MG Road.

Rally Called for Separate Municipal Corporation

BRS MLA and former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav called for this rally. The primary demand was the creation of a separate municipal corporation for Secunderabad. Supporters gathered to voice this longstanding issue.

Police took BRS leader Talasani Sai Kiran Yadav into custody before the rally could proceed. Sai Kiran Yadav serves as the party's Secunderabad Lok Sabha in-charge. Other detained leaders included Pavan Kumar and members of the Secunderabad Jilla Sajjan's Samithi.

Leaders Express Anger Over Police Action

Addressing the media, Sai Kiran Yadav expressed strong anger at the police action. He alleged that the Congress government undermined Secunderabad's existence through these measures.

Yadav stated that despite planning a peaceful rally, police deployed in large numbers from early morning. He described the arrests as illegal and questioned whether Section 144 or a curfew was actually in force.

"Thousands of police personnel were deployed just to obstruct our rally," Yadav claimed. He emphasized that Hyderabad and Secunderabad are recognized as twin cities with distinct identities.

Accusations of Erasing Secunderabad's Identity

Yadav accused the government of attempting to erase Secunderabad's history and identity. He called the arrests unjust and stated they were fighting for their very existence.

The BRS leader revealed that permission for the rally was sought on January 5th. According to him, authorities deliberately rejected this permission late on Friday.

Yadav raised an important question about police actions. He asked why police officials inspected rally arrangements a day earlier if permission had not been granted. This contradiction troubled the detained leaders.

Future Plans Despite Setbacks

Asserting that arrests would not stop their movement, Yadav announced future plans. The BRS intends to hold a larger rally in the first week of February.

Yadav expressed confidence about significant public support for their cause. The party remains determined to continue pushing for a separate municipal corporation for Secunderabad.

This incident highlights ongoing tensions between political parties and authorities in Telangana. The demand for Secunderabad's separate municipal status continues to generate political activity and public discussion.
