Chandigarh authorities have implemented comprehensive traffic restrictions and security measures ahead of the scheduled farmers' protest on November 26, anticipating significant disruptions across the city.
Major Traffic Diversions Announced
The Chandigarh Traffic Police has revealed detailed diversion plans affecting several crucial routes throughout the city. Traffic movement will be restricted from Kajheri village chowk (Sector 42/43–52/53) to Sector 42/43 Small Chowk, extending up to Attawa village Chowk (Sector 35/36/42/43) on Jan Marg.
Additionally, significant diversions will be implemented on the V-4 road, specifically from the Sector 43/44 light point to Judicial Academy light point, continuing up to Sector 42/43 small chowk. Police officials have emphasized that these measures are essential for maintaining public safety and ensuring smooth traffic flow during the anticipated large-scale demonstration.
Massive Security Deployment Planned
Authorities are preparing for substantial crowd management with approximately 3,000 police personnel scheduled for deployment across the city. This robust security arrangement aims to prevent any untoward incidents as around 10,000 people from various farmers' unions are expected to participate in the November 26 event.
The protest marks the fifth anniversary march of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), with the Chandigarh police designating Dushera Ground in Sector 43 as the official protest venue for union members.
Previous Incident and Current Precautions
The heightened security measures follow recent unrest at Panjab University, where a complete shutdown has been called by the Panjab University Bachao Morcha. During protests on November 10, 2025, demonstrators broke locks at Gate Number 1 and entered the campus after removing barricades.
The confrontation turned physical, resulting in injuries to several police personnel including SP Sondhi, DSP, inspector Rohit Kumar, SHO of Sector 17 police station, and senior constable Vipin Sharma. All injured officers received treatment at GMSH 16 and were discharged after primary care. The Sector 11 police station subsequently registered an FIR against unknown individuals for assaulting police officers.
