Chennithala Alleges Secret CPM-SDPI Alliance in Kerala, Claims Vote Transfer Strategy
Chennithala: CPM-SDPI Alliance, Vote Transfer in Kerala Polls

Chennithala Levels Serious Allegations Against CPM and SDPI in Kerala

In a significant political development, former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has made explosive claims regarding the electoral dynamics in Kerala. Addressing a 'Meet The Leader' program in Kochi on Sunday, Chennithala alleged a clandestine alliance between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI). He asserted that this covert understanding is influencing multiple constituencies across the state, with SDPI actively supporting CPM candidates.

Historical Context and 2026 Strategy

Chennithala did not limit his accusations to the present scenario. He pointed to the 2021 assembly polls, claiming a similar tacit agreement existed between the two parties back then. According to him, this led to a substantial transfer of votes, primarily from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to the CPM, affecting approximately 60 constituencies. He further alleged that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the CPM are deliberately replicating this strategy in preparation for the 2026 elections.

Chennithala characterized the confidence displayed by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government as 'fake,' suggesting it stems from a deep-seated fear of electoral defeat. In contrast, he expressed unwavering optimism for the United Democratic Front (UDF), predicting it would secure over 100 seats and form the next government in Kerala.

Corruption Allegations in Cooperative Sector

Shifting focus to governance issues, Chennithala intensified his previous allegations of a Rs 700-crore corruption scandal within the cooperative sector. He detailed a specific instance where the government, he claimed, was poised to award a contract for developing a uniform software solution for 4,415 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Society (PACS) branches. The contract was allegedly set to go to the Kannur-based Kerala Dinesh Beedi Workers' Central Cooperative Society Ltd., an entity with no prior experience in information technology.

"The sudden declaration of elections foiled this questionable move," Chennithala stated, implying that the electoral process intervened to prevent potential malpractice.

Criticism of LDF Governance and Economic Performance

Chennithala launched a broadside against the incumbent LDF government's performance, citing a strong anti-incumbency sentiment he perceives among voters. He accused the administration of burdening the common people through repeated hikes in bus fares, electricity tariffs, and even charges on drinking water. These measures, he argued, have exacerbated financial strain on Kerala's residents.

On the economic front, Chennithala lamented Kerala's lagging position compared to neighboring states in attracting investments. He criticized the LDF government for failing to bring in a single major, high-value project over the past decade, highlighting what he views as a significant governance failure in fostering economic growth and development.

Upcoming Campaign by Rahul Gandhi

In a related announcement, Chennithala revealed that Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is scheduled to campaign in Kerala on Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, Gandhi will tour the Adoor, Pathanamthitta, Puthuppally, and Ettumanur constituencies. His itinerary for Tuesday includes engagements in the Malabar region, aimed at bolstering UDF's campaign efforts ahead of the elections.

These allegations and statements from Chennithala set the stage for a highly charged political atmosphere in Kerala, with implications for the upcoming electoral battles and the state's governance trajectory.
