Congress Block President Brutally Murdered in Ludhiana Village
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the political landscape of Punjab, Congress block president Parminder Tiwari was hacked to death with an axe in Takhran village, Ludhiana. The brutal attack occurred late on Sunday evening in Harian village, where Tiwari sustained grievous injuries and later succumbed during treatment at a private hospital.
Police Investigation Points to Land Dispute as Motive
Ludhiana police on Monday revealed that preliminary investigations indicate the murder was allegedly linked to a long-standing dispute over the demolition of a house constructed illegally on panchayat land. According to police findings, the main accused, Vijay Kumar, had been harbouring a deep-seated grudge against Tiwari and the Takhra-Khokhran village panchayat following the demolition of his unauthorized construction.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma told media that preliminary findings clearly indicated the accused had raised construction on panchayat land without proper authorization. "The structure was demolished with the assistance of the village panchayat, in which Tiwari played an active role. The murder appears to be the direct result of the grudge held by the accused against Tiwari," Sharma stated emphatically.
Six Arrests Made in Connection with the Murder
The police commissioner confirmed that Vijay Kumar has been arrested for the alleged murder. In a significant development, authorities have also arrested five other persons for allegedly harbouring the accused after the incident. These arrests suggest a coordinated effort to conceal the crime in the immediate aftermath.
Sources familiar with the village politics revealed that Parminder Tiwari played a pivotal role in the formation of a pro-Congress panchayat in the village. After the panchayat came to power, systematic action was taken against illegal constructions throughout the area, including the demolition of Vijay Kumar's house, where Tiwari was reportedly actively involved in the enforcement process.
Community Reaction and Family Tragedy
The brutal killing triggered widespread panic in the area, with several shops in Malwa Chowk remaining shut as a mark of protest and fear. Local residents have demanded a fair and thorough probe into the murder and strict punishment for those responsible, highlighting concerns about law and order in the region.
The tragedy has devastated Tiwari's family, who were reportedly informed about his death only on Monday morning. Until that point, they had been told he was in critical condition. His wife Kusum Tiwari and their children were completely shattered upon receiving the devastating news.
Family sources disclosed that Tiwari's brother, Davinder Tiwari, is returning from Canada to be with the grieving family. They added that Parminder Tiwari was not only an active Congress leader but also a successful businessman. His family reportedly runs a private school, and he was personally involved in property business and rental housing for migrant labourers, making his loss particularly significant for multiple sectors of the community.
Ongoing Investigation and Political Implications
Police authorities have confirmed that further investigation is actively ongoing to uncover any additional details or potential accomplices in this politically sensitive case. The murder has raised serious questions about the safety of political workers involved in enforcement actions against illegal activities, particularly in rural areas where land disputes often turn violent.
The incident underscores the volatile nature of land disputes in Punjab's villages and the dangerous consequences when political authority intersects with property enforcement. As the investigation continues, authorities are examining all angles of the case while the community mourns the loss of a local leader who was deeply embedded in both political and business circles.
