The Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Partap Singh Bajwa, has issued a scathing condemnation following the murder of young Congress leader Umarsir Singh, popularly known as Sheera Bhinder, in Moga district. Bajwa labeled the killing a direct result of the Aam Aadmi Party government's complete failure to maintain law and order in the state.
A Grassroots Worker Silenced
Bajwa highlighted that the victim, Umarsir Singh alias Sheera Bhinder from Dharamkot in Moga, was a dedicated grassroots worker from the Scheduled Caste community who championed democratic values. The opposition leader revealed a disturbing sequence of events, stating that after Bhinder played a key role in ensuring the defeat of an AAP candidate in recent Block Samiti elections, his family had allegedly received threats. "Today, those threats culminated in his cold-blooded murder by gangsters," Bajwa asserted, terming the incident a clear case of targeted political violence.
Direct Accusations Against CM Bhagwant Mann
Holding Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann directly accountable, Bajwa argued that the home portfolio is under Mann's charge, leaving him no room to deflect blame. "He can neither deflect blame nor hide behind press releases and empty claims," Bajwa said. He pointed to repeated incidents of gang violence, targeted killings, and intimidation as proof that the rule of law has utterly collapsed under the AAP administration. Bajwa posed a sharp question: "Is defending democracy now a life-threatening act under the AAP govt?"
Demands for Swift Justice and Systemic Change
Bajwa called upon Moga SSP Ajay Gandhi to ensure the immediate arrest of all accused, a full exposé of the conspiracy behind the killing, and the delivery of swift, transparent justice. Expressing the Congress party's solidarity with the bereaved family, Bajwa emphasized that Punjab deserves peace and security, not fear and bullets. "This murder must become a turning point, not just another statistic brushed under the carpet," he concluded.
Echoing these sentiments, senior Congress leader and Phagwara MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal also condemned the brutal murder in Bhinder Kalan. Dhaliwal described it as a shocking reflection of the law and order breakdown and warned that Punjab is slipping into a 'Gangster Raj'. He demanded an impartial, time-bound investigation, strict action against the perpetrators, and concrete steps to dismantle criminal networks operating across the state. "The AAP govt must wake up before more innocent lives are lost," Dhaliwal asserted.
