Mahila Congress leader Gunjan Singh launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Chhattisgarh. She accused the state administration of a complete breakdown in law and order. Singh made these allegations during a press conference held in Raipur on Sunday.
Congress Leader Cites Alarming Crime Statistics
Gunjan Singh presented disturbing figures to support her claims. She referenced data reportedly tabled by the home minister in the Legislative Assembly. According to this information, a staggering 3,191 rape cases were registered in just one year.
"This translates to eight or nine sexual assault cases every single day," Singh stated emphatically. "In practical terms, a woman becomes a target every three hours in our state."
Specific Incidents Highlight Safety Concerns
The Congress leader pointed to several high-profile cases to illustrate the deteriorating situation. She mentioned the rape of a nine-year-old girl in the state capital. Singh also highlighted the brutal murder of a young woman in Korba district.
"The government has completely failed to create a fear-free environment for women," she declared. Singh argued that women feel increasingly unsafe since the BJP came to power in Chhattisgarh.
Chhattisgarh Becoming a Narcotics Hub, Claims Opposition
Beyond crimes against women, Singh raised serious concerns about drug trafficking. She alleged that Chhattisgarh is rapidly transforming into a major center for narcotics distribution.
"Drugs like opium, ganja, and heroin are being sold openly across the state," she claimed. "Illicit liquor flows freely without any check."
Police Inaction Alleged in Drug Trade
Singh described a troubling scenario where criminal gangs operate with impunity. "These gangs are active at every major intersection and market," she said. "Yet the fear of police action has completely vanished from their minds."
The Mahila Congress national general secretary, who also serves as Chhattisgarh in-charge, conducted the press conference alongside Rajya Sabha MP Phulo Devi Netam. Netam currently holds the position of state Mahila Congress president. Together, they presented a grim picture of public safety under the current administration.
Singh's allegations paint a portrait of a state where law enforcement mechanisms appear to be failing. Her statements suggest systematic problems in maintaining basic security for citizens. The Congress leader's press conference represents a significant political challenge to the ruling BJP government in Chhattisgarh.
