Congress Slams Modi Government Over School Bus Requisition for Refinery Event
The Congress party has raised strong objections to reports that private school buses in Rajasthan's Jalore district are being requisitioned to transport people to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's refinery inauguration event in Pachpadra on April 21. The party has termed this move as a blatant misuse of government machinery and an example of "dictatorial functioning" by the ruling administration.
District Education Officer's Directive Sparks Controversy
The controversy stems from a directive issued by the district education officer asking private schools to provide their buses for transportation purposes. According to reports, more than 550 buses are required in Jalone district alone for the Prime Minister's event. Congress has alleged that buses from private operators and educational institutions are being forcibly taken to artificially boost attendance numbers at the political gathering.
Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra expressed grave concerns about the impact on students' education, particularly highlighting that Class 11 and 12 students in Balotra are reportedly being compelled to attend the event as per directives from the chief district education officer. "Why are students forced to attend a political function instead of going to school? How will children commute if school buses are taken away?" Dotasra questioned in a post on social media platform X.
Disruption to Daily Life and Essential Services
The Congress leader further claimed that this move is causing significant disruption to daily life across the district, with students and families bearing the brunt of the inconvenience. "Children's education is being compromised, and families with pre-booked transport for weddings are facing serious inconvenience as buses are being diverted or cancelled at the last minute," Dotasra stated.
The party has raised fundamental questions about the rationale behind diverting essential school transport for what it describes as a purely political event. Congress has criticized what it calls an "event-centric approach" to governance, where public convenience and essential services are allegedly sidelined for political optics.
Allegations of Undemocratic Practices
Terming the situation "undemocratic," Dotasra alleged that the government is creating unnecessary hardship for ordinary citizens merely to project a large gathering at the Prime Minister's event. "The government has essentially become an event management machinery, where the needs of the public take a backseat to political showmanship," he added.
The Congress state president also issued a warning about what he described as the "arrogance of power" displayed through such actions, asserting that the public would respond appropriately at the right time. The party's objections highlight growing concerns about the prioritization of political events over essential public services and the potential impact on educational activities during crucial examination periods.
This controversy emerges as Rajasthan prepares for the high-profile inauguration of the Pachpadra refinery project, with opposition parties closely monitoring the arrangements and their impact on daily life in the region. The incident has sparked broader discussions about the appropriate use of government machinery and resources during political events versus their allocation for essential public services.
