Bareilly: The roof of an under-construction convention centre in the Lakdi Fazilpur area of Moradabad collapsed after the shuttering gave way, officials said. The project, being built at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore, has been under construction since September last year and spans around 810 square metres.
Incident Details
Additional municipal commissioner Ajit Kumar said a report has been sought from the construction and design services. “The structure has not yet been handed over to the civic body, so our direct role is limited,” he said. Officials said the incident occurred on Thursday night. No workers were present at the site at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Project Background
The convention centre is being developed to address the shortage of such venues in the city, which currently relies on the Panchayat Bhawan for public gatherings. The collapse raises questions about construction safety and oversight during the building phase.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the shuttering failure. The municipal corporation has requested a detailed report from the construction and design services department to assess structural integrity and ensure compliance with safety norms.
