Ranchi Court Directs Jharkhand Chief Minister to Appear in ED Case

A special MP/MLA court in Ranchi has issued a significant directive on Friday, ordering Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to personally appear before it on December 12. This development comes in a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against the chief minister concerning alleged non-compliance with summons served to him.

Legal Proceedings and Court Hearing

During the court proceedings, Hemant Soren's advocate Pradeep Chandra presented the defense's position. He revealed that the ED had submitted a petition before the MP/MLA court stating that the stay order previously granted by the Jharkhand High Court on the personal appearance of Hemant Soren in the case has now been vacated.

Chandra explained their legal strategy, stating: "We submitted an oral submission that since the case is scheduled to be listed before the HC in the coming days, let the matter be adjourned for at least 15 days. The court has fixed December 12 as the next date of hearing."

Background of the Enforcement Directorate Case

The legal trouble for the Jharkhand chief minister stems from the Enforcement Directorate's petition claiming that CM Hemant Soren had not appeared in eight out of ten summons issued to him. These summons were connected to the high-profile Bargai land scam and money laundering case that has been under investigation.

The ED's persistent efforts to secure the chief minister's appearance highlight the seriousness with which the central agency is pursuing this matter. The alleged non-compliance with multiple summons has now culminated in the court's direct order for personal appearance, setting the stage for a crucial legal confrontation on December 12.

This development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing legal battle between the Jharkhand chief minister and the central investigative agency, with potential political implications for the state government.
