Expelled CPM Leader V Kunhikrishnan Unveils New Evidence in Martyr Fund Scandal

In a dramatic development, expelled Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader V Kunhikrishnan, who is running as an independent candidate in Payyannur, has released additional evidence to support his claims of mismanagement within the CPM's martyr fund. Kunhikrishnan, who has been vocal about alleged financial irregularities, shared bank statements on his Facebook page on Monday, intensifying the controversy.

Bank Statements Reveal Suspicious Transactions

According to the disclosed bank documents, a transfer of Rs 5 lakh was made from the C V Dhanaraj martyr fund to K Madhu, the then CPM Payyannur area secretary. This transaction is part of a larger pattern that Kunhikrishnan alleges points to systematic misuse of funds.

Further documents indicate that on November 3, 2016, a total of Rs 40 lakh was withdrawn from the fund established in the name of martyr Dhanaraj. This amount was converted into fixed deposits, with Rs 20 lakh placed at the main branch of Payyannur Rural Bank and another Rs 20 lakh at its Railway Gate branch. The deposits were structured in eight separate installments of Rs 5 lakh each.

Questions Raised Over Missing Funds

Kunhikrishnan highlighted that four of the deposits at the main branch were transferred back to Dhanaraj's account upon maturity on November 8, 2018. However, from the Rs 20 lakh held at the Railway Gate branch, only Rs 5 lakh was returned to the martyr's account on the same date.

In his Facebook post, Kunhikrishnan posed critical questions: "What happened to the remaining Rs 15 lakh? Wasn't Rs 5 lakh transferred to the party area committee account on April 20, 2019, another Rs 5 lakh on October 12, 2019, and the final Rs 5 lakh on February 7, 2020, and then withdrawn? When the account in the name of Dhanaraj still existed, why was this Rs 15 lakh moved to the area committee account and withdrawn?"

These allegations suggest a potential diversion of funds intended for martyrs' families, raising serious concerns about transparency and accountability within the CPM's financial operations in Payyannur.
