Dhanbad Bar, Admin End Deadlock Over Road Width

Dhanbad: Ending a two-month-long deadlock, the district administration and the Dhanbad Bar Association (DBA) on Monday reached an agreement over a 30-feet wide approach road connecting a newly built warehouse to the Dhanbad Main Road through the district court premises. The original proposal for a 40-feet wide road had sparked opposition from the Bar Association, which argued that it would adversely affect hundreds of advocates occupying chambers and working spaces along the route.

A DBA delegation led by its president Radeshyam Goswami met Dhanbad sub-divisional officer (SDO) Lokesh Barange and other district officials. During the meeting, both sides mutually agreed to prune the width of the proposed road by 10 feet from its original plan of 40 feet. “Discussions were also held regarding vacant land available within the court premises,” Goswami said.

“It was also agreed that advocates, who might be affected by the construction of the road, will be provided space on the vacant land where necessary arrangements will be made to enable them to continue their professional activities without disruption,” he further added. The DBA had earlier demanded rehabilitation for lawyers likely to be displaced by the road before any construction could begin.

Stating that the meeting with DBA was productive, Barange said, “A technical team is now working on the revised proposal.” The SDO further noted that the differences between the DBA and district administration had been resolved, and all concerns of the advocates had been addressed through mutual understanding and consensus. The agreement marks a significant step forward, ensuring that the warehouse connectivity project can proceed while safeguarding the interests of legal professionals.
