Dhubri Residents Hope for Development Package from New NDA Govt
Dhubri Hopes for NDA Development Package

Dhubri: With the formation of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Dispur, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, residents of Dhubri district are pinning their hopes on a special development package from the new administration. Despite being a religious minority-dominated district, NDA candidates secured two of Dhubri's five assembly seats in the recent elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party's Ashwani Roy Sarkar won from Golokganj, while the Asom Gana Parishad's Jibesh Roy claimed another seat. The remaining three seats went to the Congress party, and the All India United Democratic Front failed to win any.

Residents' Demands

Prominent socio-political leader Biswajit Kalita noted that the NDA had no representation from Dhubri district over the past five years but now holds two seats. 'Our hopes are high. Our demands for a railway overbridge at Senpara More near Dhubri Railway Station, an alternative road-cum-embankment along the Mora Gadadhar from Dhubri Zila Parishad to Gauripur, and a stadium with all sports facilities should be fulfilled soon,' he added.

Historical Neglect

Another socio-political leader, Rarendra Bhattacharjee, highlighted that Dhubri and Gauripur are key constituencies for history, heritage, and culture, but have sent opposition legislators since 1991, making development in the two towns 'the need of the hour.' Bhattacharjee said that despite the lack of strong NDA representation since 2016, several development works were sanctioned and are now being implemented in the district. The residents remain optimistic that the new government will address their long-standing infrastructure and sports needs, fostering overall growth in the region.
