DMK's Rs 1 Lakh Crore Manifesto for Coimbatore Unveiled

DMK Candidate Announces Massive Rs 1 Lakh Crore Development Plan for Coimbatore

In a significant political move, Coimbatore South DMK candidate V Senthilbalaji on Tuesday unveiled an exclusive manifesto for Coimbatore city, outlining ambitious projects worth a staggering Rs 1 lakh crore to be implemented over the next five years. The manifesto, titled "DMK 26," was presented during a detailed media briefing, signaling a major push for urban and industrial transformation in the region.

Massive Investment Split Between Industry and Infrastructure

According to the comprehensive manifesto, the proposed Rs 1 lakh crore investment is strategically divided into two equal halves. An estimated Rs 50,000 crore is earmarked for industrial development and expansion, while the remaining Rs 50,000 crore is allocated for critical infrastructure upgrades. This balanced approach aims to boost economic growth while enhancing the city's livability and connectivity.

Industrial Development: Textile 2.0 and Beyond

The industrial component of the manifesto features eleven key initiatives designed to revitalize Coimbatore's manufacturing sector. A central highlight is the execution of the "Textile 2.0" initiative, which includes the establishment of two mega textile parks to strengthen the region's traditional industry base.

  • Development of an Artificial Intelligence and industrial IoT hub
  • Creation of a skill development university
  • Promotion of green industry transition for sustainable growth

Infrastructure Overhaul: 15 Key Initiatives

On the infrastructure front, the manifesto outlines fifteen specific initiatives aimed at transforming Coimbatore's urban landscape. Key proposals include:

  • Urban mobility and decongestion projects to ease traffic
  • Power grid infrastructure upgrades
  • Implementation of the Aliyar-Nallar scheme for water management
  • Construction of a new flyover between Rajalakshmi Mills and Ondipudur
  • Development of an integrated bus terminus similar to those in Salem, Madurai, and Trichy

Candidate's Vision and Response to Allegations

While addressing the media, Senthilbalaji emphasized that these initiatives resulted from detailed consultations with local industrialists. He highlighted Coimbatore's current contribution of 10% to Tamil Nadu's total production, projecting that this would increase to 15-17% with the implementation of the proposed projects.

The candidate also referenced the state government's previous investments, noting that development projects worth Rs 21,000 crore had been rolled out for Coimbatore over the last five years.

In response to allegations regarding cash distribution for votes and the involvement of a Karur-based member, Senthilbalaji firmly denied all accusations. He stated, "As per ECI norms, other states and districts can extend support to their candidates until the end of campaigns. The opposition has brought teams from Delhi and other northern states for campaigning. Out of fear of losing the election, the opposition is trying its best to frame me with baseless allegations without any evidence."

The comprehensive manifesto represents one of the most substantial development proposals for Coimbatore in recent political history, setting the stage for what could be transformative changes in the city's economic and physical landscape if implemented.
