The opposition leader pointed to a series of violent incidents reported across the state within a mere 24-hour period as evidence of the administration's failure to ensure public safety.
A String of Violent Crimes Across the State
On Sunday, EPS listed a harrowing sequence of events that unfolded in various districts, painting a grim picture of the current security situation. He highlighted five specific cases that occurred in a single day. Near Kumbakonam, a Class XII student was brutally beaten to death during a clash among students. In a separate incident in Sirkazhi, a vegetable vendor was murdered. The violence continued in Tenkasi, where a farmer was attacked with a lethal weapon. Perhaps the most gruesome crime took place in Salem, where a youth was beheaded. Additionally, an attempted robbery was reported in Nagercoil, adding to the list of criminal activities.
EPS Holds Government Responsible
Edappadi K Palaniswami asserted that this cluster of violent acts demonstrates the state government's inability to fulfill its fundamental responsibility of protecting citizens. He argued that the incidents are not isolated but indicative of a systemic collapse under the DMK's watch. The AIADMK leader expressed grave concern over the deteriorating security environment, stating that people are living in fear.
Call for Action in Government's Final Months
In his statement, Palaniswami issued a direct appeal to the MK Stalin-led administration. He urged the government to take immediate and decisive steps to restore law and order during the remaining four months of its current term. EPS emphasized that ensuring public safety should be the paramount duty of any elected government, and the current spate of violence signifies a dereliction of that duty.
