Former Minister Slams Congress Government for Financial Mismanagement in Karnataka
In a sharp critique of the ruling Congress administration, former minister Appachu Ranjan has accused the state government of systematically draining the Karnataka treasury through its much-publicized guarantee schemes. Addressing a gathering of BJP Shakti Kendra workers at Mahila Samaj in Nanjarayapatna on Sunday, Ranjan painted a stark picture of fiscal irresponsibility that he claims is crippling the state's development.
Allegations of Financial Drain and Mounting Debt
Ranjan asserted that the Siddaramaiah-led government has imposed a crushing debt burden of lakhs of rupees on every citizen of Karnataka in its pursuit of what he termed "free gift" policies. The former minister contrasted this with what he described as the fiscally responsible approach of the previous BJP government, during which MLAs were reportedly allocated between Rs 250 and 300 crore annually for constituency development works.
"The Congress government is emptying the state treasury in the name of guarantee schemes while development has come to a complete standstill," Ranjan declared during his address. He emphasized that even Congress MLAs are reportedly expressing frustration over the lack of project implementation across the state.
Development Paralysis in Madikeri Constituency
The former minister provided specific examples from his own Madikeri constituency to illustrate his claims. According to Ranjan, while sanctioned development works were consistently implemented during the BJP's tenure, no new projects have been initiated in the constituency over the past three years under Congress rule.
This development paralysis was echoed by BJP Shakti Kendra taluk president Gautam, who told attendees that people across Karnataka are growing increasingly weary of the Congress administration's mismanagement and failure to deliver on development promises.
BJP Organizational Meeting and Leadership Changes
The gathering also served as an organizational meeting for the local BJP unit. During the proceedings, former TP member Viju was elected as the new president of the Nanjarayapatna Shakti Kendra. The meeting was attended by several prominent local BJP figures including:
- BJP district vice-president R K Chandru
- Former gram panchayat member Mavaji Ravi
- Former Shakti Kendra president Naveen
The political gathering in Nanjarayapatna represents growing discontent within opposition circles regarding the Congress government's fiscal policies and development record. As Karnataka continues to grapple with economic challenges, such criticisms are likely to intensify in the lead-up to future electoral contests.
