A violent dispute over access to water for irrigation turned bloody in a village of Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya district, leaving a farmer seriously injured after being shot. The incident has highlighted the intense pressures surrounding water resources in the agricultural community.
Altercation Over Water Turns Violent
The conflict erupted in Baisoli village under the Bidhuna area, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Achhalda police station. According to police reports, the victim, 40-year-old Uday Pratap, son of Ramkumar, was engaged in irrigating his field using a submersible pump.
Another villager approached Pratap and requested water for his own field. When Pratap refused this request, a heated argument broke out between the two men. The situation rapidly escalated from verbal abuse to extreme violence.
Shooting and Immediate Aftermath
During the confrontation, the accused individual, in a fit of rage, opened fire. The bullet struck Uday Pratap, causing a serious injury to his hand. The attack left the farmer severely wounded and in need of urgent medical attention.
Senior police officials, including Circle Officer Manoj Gangwar and Station House Officer Pankaj Mishra, promptly arrived at the scene following the incident. The initial response focused on securing the area and arranging medical care for the victim.
Police Investigation and Medical Response
The injured farmer was first rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) for primary treatment. Given the severity of the gunshot wound, he was subsequently referred to a higher medical centre in Chichauli for advanced care and surgery.
Circle Officer Manoj Gangwar confirmed that a search operation to locate and apprehend the accused shooter is actively ongoing. "Police are investigating the entire matter," stated the CO, underscoring the seriousness with which the authorities are treating this case of attempted murder over a resource conflict.
This shocking event underscores the sometimes desperate competition for vital irrigation water in rural India, where access can mean the difference between a successful harvest and crop failure. The police investigation will now seek to establish the full sequence of events and bring the perpetrator to justice.
