Fire at NH-39 Construction Camp in Garhwa, 65 Escape

A fire broke out at MG Contractors Pvt Ltd's road construction camp at Akalwani village in Garhwa district on Saturday night. All 65 workers sleeping in the three blocks of the staff quarters escaped safely, police said.

Details of the Incident

Work is being carried out on a stretch of NH-39 from Khajuri village to Wyndhamganj. Rakesh Kumar, the cashier of the construction company, said, “The blaze broke out in one of the staff quarters due to short circuit and spread rapidly to the remaining two blocks. Strong wind fanned the flames.”

Injuries and Medical Attention

Two workers sustained burn injuries while attempting to douse the fire. The injured were identified as Mahadev Sah and Nepal Sahu. They were taken to Meral hospital and released after treatment, sources said.

Official Statement

Meral police station officer-in-charge Vishnu Kant said, “All the three blocks of the staff quarters were completely gutted. However, there was no casualty. Assessment of the damage caused by the fire is under way.”

The cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances. Local authorities have urged construction companies to ensure proper safety measures at their camps to prevent such incidents in the future.
